Cars

Means of transportation have changed and improved our lives since they were invented. Specifically and from the moment they began to be commercialized, cars have become the mean of transportation more used by society due to the facilities and advantages they offer. Although the many advantages that cars have they also have disadvantages that affect society.

On the one hand, the main advantage is the independence that they give to the driver. A car can be used at any time and can take you almost anywhere, so for example workers can get to work without problem or families can make road trips. Other advantage is the absolute comfort that the car offers to the driver and the rest of the passengers. Some of the features that help to create that comfort are: a seat to you, music system, air conditioning and adaptation of schedule. Moreover, the car is a means of transport that can reach remote places where other forms of transport cannot do so it is possible to know and explore new places thus favoring tourism. Finally, the car industry is an important part of the world economy therefore its widespread use and its continued increase help to stimulate the economy and also to create jobs which helps to deal the crisis and the current economic problems.

On the other hand, the main disadvantage is that cars damage the environment and they are one of the causes of pollution in cities due to the gases that they expel to the ozone layer. In addition, cars can be expensive in relation with their maintenance, use and security. Gasoline, keep the car in good condition and pay the insurance are some of the features that makes the fact of having a car expensive. Other disadvantage is the usual traffic jams which are caused due to the great use of the car. Most of the time the traffic jams provoke stress, unpunctuality and aggressiveness among drivers. Finally, one of the worst is traffic accidents. Many people die on the road damaging not only to the families of the victims but society in general.

As far as I am concerned, cars have proved their worth and how necessary are for us but there are important disadvantages that need to be studied and settled like the pollution caused by them or the traffic accidents. Eventually, cars are one of our best friends  but with a bad use it can become our worst enemy.

London

I remember as it was yesterday when I stepped on London for the first time. I experienced those feelings we all feel the first times: illusion and fear (that soon disappeared). Although I was only one tourist among millions I soon felt like I was part of London because it has that ability to make you feel welcome and feel at home. I do remember walking through the London streets full of culture, people all around the world, people rushing to get to work, a millions of souls that guided me around the town. How bad I wished to have more than two eyes to be able to see every single detail of London and keep those details as photographs on my mind that can always be seen whenever you want. Memories that never disappear that remain intact and are not corrupted by their owners. That it is why I hate not being able to remember everything, every moment and every site I visited. Thus I know I will return, so I can create new memories and keep and take care of the old ones but mostly because London makes me feel like I belong somewhere and let’s face it: we all want to feel that we belong to something or someone.

Young drinkers

One of the problems that modern society faces is the increase in consumption of alcohol among young people. More and more teenagers venture to drink at a younger age losing self-control most of the time. This situation causes many problems not only to the young people but to those around them as well.

First of all, drinking alcohol and from very early ages causes serious health problems both physical and mental. On the one hand, it can lead to important liver diseases like hepatitis or cirrhosis which would cause deterioration in the quality of life and even premature death. In addition, not only the liver is damaged but other important organs such as the heart are affected by the consumption as well as the colon. On the other hand, Alcohol is a drug and as such carries the danger of creating addiction and mostly to teenagers that make drinking a habit. Other problem is the damage caused to the education of these. Alcohol harms the brain areas responsible for learning and memory, so it deteriorates the ability to study and get good results in exams. Finally, young people are at risk of developing a damaging behavior like relationship problems, traffic accidents or bad behavior at home.

One solution to the problem of young drinkers is to control the sale of alcohol in stores. Many stores do not follow the law and continue to sell alcohol to minors or in other cases, minors manage to buy alcohol, so tightening control and laws teenagers will not be able to buy alcohol. A second solution is to regulate alcohol advertising in the media to prevent them know its existence. A final solution is that adults avoid consumption and alcohol glorification in front of young people. If adults do not glorify the alcohol and its advantages, teenagers will not be attracted to alcohol.

As far as I am concerned, despite the severity of the problem and its consequences it has solutions that need to be taken into account and implemented. Finally, as a society it is necessary to face this problem together since it is a problem that affects important aspects of life.

Ecological tourism

Nowadays, more people care about the environment. Everyday new alternatives are created to respect and take care of it as well as to show that there is a wide range options that are eco-friendly. One of them is Eco-tourism, a way of traveling that involves going to natural and isolated areas to support conservation and see wildlife. Although Eco-tourism has many advantages it also presents disadvantages due to it is a novelty in the tourism world.

On the one hand, eco-tourism is a sustainable choice for the environment preservation. The point of ecological tourism is visiting exotic landscapes and protect them, so that offers an incentive for local people to preserve and protect their environment and wildlife since it can provide significant revenues from the tourism. Moreover, it benefits the local people due to the increase demand for local jobs in response for the need of workers in hotels, resorts or tour guides among others. Finally, other advantage is the cultural education it provides to the society. Ecological tourism is not only about visiting different places but it is also about knowing local people and their cultures.

On the other hand, ecological tourism can severely damage the wildlife. This tourism can interrupt the peaceful wildlife. Not all the people care much about the inconvenience caused to the animals, so their behavior damages the animals and causes negative effects on the ecosystem. In addition, due to the difficulty of organizing a good trip with good conditions and also the remoteness of the places, these trips are expensive and not many people can afford it, so its advantages cannot be exploited by everybody being almost an exclusive tourism for certain people. Eventually, sometimes local people do not always benefit economically or socially as a result of ecotourism. Moreover, the type of employment that local people get into it is not always the best because they are usually low paid or they are only offered temporary contracts without any respect for labor hours or conditions.

As far as I am concerned, Eco-tourism is one of the living proofs that people want an ecological change that improves the world in which we live but as a new movement there is a lack of regulation and it needs to improve certain aspects like the labor control or economic aspects. However, if these problems are solved, this kind of tourism will be the perfect eco-friendly choice and alternative in the world of travel.

Words

I have never been good with words because I am afraid of them. Words are powerful; they can stay forever in your mind or they can last a second and they are also frustrating; sometimes words seem not to be enough to express what I am feeling.

Words hurt, mostly the ones I was not able to say. They are the reminders of my missed opportunities, of the times that NO should have been the answer and the times where I was not brave enough to stand for my wellness.

Words are also confusing. At some point I wanted to hear certain words but they did not come out as I wanted but as I needed. The constant battle between what I want and what I need that always ends with losses and with a clear winner.

Yes, I have never been good with words because they make it real and sometimes I am not ready for the truth.
