Cars

Means of transportation have changed and improved our lives since they were invented. Specifically and from the moment they began to be commercialized, cars have become the mean of transportation more used by society due to the facilities and advantages they offer. Although the many advantages that cars have they also have disadvantages that affect society.

On the one hand, the main advantage is the independence that they give to the driver. A car can be used at any time and can take you almost anywhere, so for example workers can get to work without problem or families can make road trips. Other advantage is the absolute comfort that the car offers to the driver and the rest of the passengers. Some of the features that help to create that comfort are: a seat to you, music system, air conditioning and adaptation of schedule. Moreover, the car is a means of transport that can reach remote places where other forms of transport cannot do so it is possible to know and explore new places thus favoring tourism. Finally, the car industry is an important part of the world economy therefore its widespread use and its continued increase help to stimulate the economy and also to create jobs which helps to deal the crisis and the current economic problems.

On the other hand, the main disadvantage is that cars damage the environment and they are one of the causes of pollution in cities due to the gases that they expel to the ozone layer. In addition, cars can be expensive in relation with their maintenance, use and security. Gasoline, keep the car in good condition and pay the insurance are some of the features that makes the fact of having a car expensive. Other disadvantage is the usual traffic jams which are caused due to the great use of the car. Most of the time the traffic jams provoke stress, unpunctuality and aggressiveness among drivers. Finally, one of the worst is traffic accidents. Many people die on the road damaging not only to the families of the victims but society in general.

As far as I am concerned, cars have proved their worth and how necessary are for us but there are important disadvantages that need to be studied and settled like the pollution caused by them or the traffic accidents. Eventually, cars are one of our best friends  but with a bad use it can become our worst enemy.

London

I remember as it was yesterday when I stepped on London for the first time. I experienced those feelings we all feel the first times: illusion and fear (that soon disappeared). Although I was only one tourist among millions I soon felt like I was part of London because it has that ability to make you feel welcome and feel at home. I do remember walking through the London streets full of culture, people all around the world, people rushing to get to work, a millions of souls that guided me around the town. How bad I wished to have more than two eyes to be able to see every single detail of London and keep those details as photographs on my mind that can always be seen whenever you want. Memories that never disappear that remain intact and are not corrupted by their owners. That it is why I hate not being able to remember everything, every moment and every site I visited. Thus I know I will return, so I can create new memories and keep and take care of the old ones but mostly because London makes me feel like I belong somewhere and let’s face it: we all want to feel that we belong to something or someone.

Young drinkers

One of the problems that modern society faces is the increase in consumption of alcohol among young people. More and more teenagers venture to drink at a younger age losing self-control most of the time. This situation causes many problems not only to the young people but to those around them as well.

First of all, drinking alcohol and from very early ages causes serious health problems both physical and mental. On the one hand, it can lead to important liver diseases like hepatitis or cirrhosis which would cause deterioration in the quality of life and even premature death. In addition, not only the liver is damaged but other important organs such as the heart are affected by the consumption as well as the colon. On the other hand, Alcohol is a drug and as such carries the danger of creating addiction and mostly to teenagers that make drinking a habit. Other problem is the damage caused to the education of these. Alcohol harms the brain areas responsible for learning and memory, so it deteriorates the ability to study and get good results in exams. Finally, young people are at risk of developing a damaging behavior like relationship problems, traffic accidents or bad behavior at home.

One solution to the problem of young drinkers is to control the sale of alcohol in stores. Many stores do not follow the law and continue to sell alcohol to minors or in other cases, minors manage to buy alcohol, so tightening control and laws teenagers will not be able to buy alcohol. A second solution is to regulate alcohol advertising in the media to prevent them know its existence. A final solution is that adults avoid consumption and alcohol glorification in front of young people. If adults do not glorify the alcohol and its advantages, teenagers will not be attracted to alcohol.

As far as I am concerned, despite the severity of the problem and its consequences it has solutions that need to be taken into account and implemented. Finally, as a society it is necessary to face this problem together since it is a problem that affects important aspects of life.

Ecological tourism

Nowadays, more people care about the environment. Everyday new alternatives are created to respect and take care of it as well as to show that there is a wide range options that are eco-friendly. One of them is Eco-tourism, a way of traveling that involves going to natural and isolated areas to support conservation and see wildlife. Although Eco-tourism has many advantages it also presents disadvantages due to it is a novelty in the tourism world.

On the one hand, eco-tourism is a sustainable choice for the environment preservation. The point of ecological tourism is visiting exotic landscapes and protect them, so that offers an incentive for local people to preserve and protect their environment and wildlife since it can provide significant revenues from the tourism. Moreover, it benefits the local people due to the increase demand for local jobs in response for the need of workers in hotels, resorts or tour guides among others. Finally, other advantage is the cultural education it provides to the society. Ecological tourism is not only about visiting different places but it is also about knowing local people and their cultures.

On the other hand, ecological tourism can severely damage the wildlife. This tourism can interrupt the peaceful wildlife. Not all the people care much about the inconvenience caused to the animals, so their behavior damages the animals and causes negative effects on the ecosystem. In addition, due to the difficulty of organizing a good trip with good conditions and also the remoteness of the places, these trips are expensive and not many people can afford it, so its advantages cannot be exploited by everybody being almost an exclusive tourism for certain people. Eventually, sometimes local people do not always benefit economically or socially as a result of ecotourism. Moreover, the type of employment that local people get into it is not always the best because they are usually low paid or they are only offered temporary contracts without any respect for labor hours or conditions.

As far as I am concerned, Eco-tourism is one of the living proofs that people want an ecological change that improves the world in which we live but as a new movement there is a lack of regulation and it needs to improve certain aspects like the labor control or economic aspects. However, if these problems are solved, this kind of tourism will be the perfect eco-friendly choice and alternative in the world of travel.

Words

I have never been good with words because I am afraid of them. Words are powerful; they can stay forever in your mind or they can last a second and they are also frustrating; sometimes words seem not to be enough to express what I am feeling.

Words hurt, mostly the ones I was not able to say. They are the reminders of my missed opportunities, of the times that NO should have been the answer and the times where I was not brave enough to stand for my wellness.

Words are also confusing. At some point I wanted to hear certain words but they did not come out as I wanted but as I needed. The constant battle between what I want and what I need that always ends with losses and with a clear winner.

Yes, I have never been good with words because they make it real and sometimes I am not ready for the truth.

Description

My best friend is amazing. She is thin and her height is average, although she is smaller than me. She has long black hair and beautiful brown eyes. I see her almost every day and she always makes me feel good and happy about myself. She is honest and hardworking. Moreover, she has always known what she wants and she fights for it and never gives up. If it is necessary, she will fight even stronger for you. Also she is the most generous person I have ever met. But without a doubt what I like the most about her is that she lives her life to the fullest. I am lucky to have her in my life as my best friend.

Smartphones

Nowadays, everyone has a Smart phone. Its use has increased over the last years because the facilities that it offers and the fact that they have made our lives easier. However, despite the many advantages there are significant disadvantages that affect us in different ways.

On the one hand, one advantage of smart phones is the immediate contact with friends and family, no matter where they are.  Moreover, you can take pictures with it, being able to capture you special moments. In addition, any Smartphone has many entertainment applications that entertain the users. Finally, other advantage is that Smart phones can help you in case of emergencies.

On the other hand, one disadvantage of Smart phones is the loss of face to face communication. In addition, it can also provoke physical injuries and health problems such as addiction. Other disadvantage is the complete loss of privacy since everyone can access to your personal information and pictures.

As far as I am concerned, smart phones are really useful and they really make our life easier and enjoyable but the problem is on the excessive use of it. If we use it with moderation, it will not cause as many problems as it is causing nowadays.

New places

One of the things I enjoy the most is travelling. The idea of knowing new places, cultures and people makes me happy. Fortunately, I have travelled to wonderful places but when it comes to travelling is never enough, so there are millions of places I want to visit. However, there are two specific places that I have always dreamt to visit and they are Canada and Italy.

First of all, I want to go to Canada because I have always been attracted by the stunning landscapes and there is no doubt that Canada has a natural environment that deserves to be seen at least once in life. The Niagara Falls, Mount Assiniboine and Spotted Lake are some of the examples of its beauty. Moreover, the country has amazing historic roots and a native culture that make it even more interesting for me to visit it. Finally, other reasons why I want to visit are the amazing festivals and cosmopolitan and modern cities.

Secondly, as a history, art and food lover Italy is the perfect place for me. I want to see where one of the greatest empires was born; I want to experience the sensations that provoke the majestic work of Bernini and Michelangelo Buonarroti. Definitely, I want to breathe art and history. Furthermore, it has incredible gastronomy that suits everyone and that I want to know and taste it. Finally, I am interested in Italian culture and its inhabitants.

In conclusion, travelling offers me the opportunity to learn, enjoy and live wonderful experiences and above all it allows me to enjoy my passions and fulfil my dream of visiting two of my favourite places: Canada and Italy.

New technologies in shools.

It is well known that new technologies make life easier and enjoyable. However, there are many areas that still do not take advantage of them, such as schools. There are countless benefits that new technologies would bring to schools like the autonomous learning, the personalized teaching and the design of alternative and innovative teaching materials.

As far as I am concerned, it is important that schools begin to be more concerned about the benefits of new technologies and start to introduce more technology in classrooms, so education continues to evolve and adapt better to modern times and students.

Overcome.

First of all, I am doing this for me not for you. I want to give a new owner to the words I never told you because I do not feel them mine anymore, because I am not yours anymore.

Everything started slowly, without looking for it nor wanting it. You were the improvised plan that always goes well. Your voice became my favorite song; your caresses were the calm of my inner storm, your eyes were the compass every time I lost myself and your arms became my home. Damn, you were everything. I loved you so much that it hurt me and I madly loved that pain because it reminded me that I was actually alive and I had a body and a soul to adore you.

And then it happened you became the monster that you promised to fight for me. I loved you so much that it hurt me but I hated that pain because it reminded me of you, your lies disguised as truths, your wicked games where I was always the loser and your egoism that eventually killed me.

It took me a lot of time and effort to finally understand that you never loved me as I deserved, that the problem was not me but you, that there were not answers to my whys and finally to let you go. My wounds are now scars which have become life lessons that make me remember what I want, what I deserve and that my one and only love has always been and will be me.

Problem and solution

Racism is one of the major problems of modern society because it preaches hatred and encourages an attitude of rejection and violence. It is also the living proof of the lack of protection, defense and enforcement of human rights as well as the passivity of the governments in relation with humanitarian rights. Moreover, Racism threatens global coexistence which creates social insecurity and the maintenance of world peace a complicated task. In addition, it is a barrier that does not allow the union of nations, people and the solution of global problems altogether. Today, many people are mistreated, disrespect and even killed for their race, color and origin by people who believe they are superior and have the power over them.

One solution to the problem of racism is to empower human rights and international organizations so that the framework for protection is greater and more effective. A second solution is to provide better values to people from an early age. If you educate younger generations on equality and diversity, racism will be eventually overcome. A third solution is to promote the role of the media to promote respect for cultures because through it the message reaches more people around the world. If education, media and international organizations work together, racism will be a problem of the past.

English and Spanish

Although English and Spanish are two of the most widely spoken languages in the world they have important differences.  For example, the origins of these two languages are different.  Spanish is a romance language, while English is considered a Germanic language. Another difference is in the pronunciation of these languages. In English the same letters and letter combinations in words can be pronounced differently from word to word, but the Spanish is read as it is written. Moreover, in English there are twelve vowel sounds, whereas in Spanish just five. The two languages differ in the gender and number of articles and adjectives. In Spanish the number and gender is changed depending on the accompanying noun, while in English they are invariable. In addition, in English the subject pronoun is mandatory, as compared to Spanish where it is not compulsory. These are some of the differences between these two languages that make them more interesting and challenging for those who like to learn languages.

Summer in the north.

This summer I went to Galicia and Asturias (Northern Spain) for six days with my family. It was not our first time because we had already gone in summer last year and since then, we knew that we would come al least once a year.

First of all, we spent the first three days in Galicia where we stayed in a beautiful country house in Santiago de Compostela. We visited Santiago, its wonderful cathedral and the historic old centre of the city. Then, the second day we went to Ourense in order to see the monastery of Oseira, an impressive romanesque building which was built over eight hundred years ago and that had an important social and economical impact. After the monastery we went to River Sil and sailed down the river while we were enjoying the beautiful landscape that surrounds it. Eventually, the last day we went to O grove and we saw the beautiful coast and how the seafood is treated.

Secondly, on the way to Asturias we stopped to see the Playa de las Catedrales, an amazing natural formation that can only be seen at certain times because the tide rises and does not allow to take a walk through it. Then, we arrived at Asturias and we stayed in a beautiful hotel on the coast. The two last days we traveled throughout the Asturian coast and we enjoyed beautiful landscapes such as Playa del Silencio or Cabo Vidio.

In conclusion, we had a blast enjoying what this beautiful land has to offer and we are looking forward to next summer to continue our particular adventure in the north.

Opinion

In a developed society where justice and dignity are fundamental and protected rights, the fact of the existence of the death penalty shows the need to change some laws. In fact, in 2014 at least 607 people were executed in 22 different countries. First of all, the fact of killing the person who committed the crime is not going to solve anything because the mistake is already done and there is no way to find redemption. Secondly, the death penalty itself is a nonsense, if one of its purpose is punish and eradicate the criminality, where is the sense of doing the same thing that is being condemning? We are putting ourselves at the same level of the criminal. Moreover, if we are willing to say that the criminal makes a atrocious action killing another human being, we have to accept that killing the guilty is equally bad. Also, there are countries that continue to execute people for their sexual orientation or religion, no one has the right to decide on the life of another, who they love or the god who they pray. Finally, as far as I am concerned there are crimes (such as drug selling or homicide) and criminals that must be severely punished but through reeducation, reintegration and the already severe deprivation of liberty and under no circumstance love and religion must be reasons for punishment.

The Giant's Causeway

The Giant's Causeway is located on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland. It is an old (formed around 60 millions years ago) and natural formation that consists of many columns that have different tonalities, shapes, postions and heights that create small or big elevations. Also, it is surrounded by the sea and beautiful cliffs that create a breathtaking landscape. The Giant's Causeway is a living proof of the wonders that nature can create.

Ideal job

Throughout my life I have had quite a few ideal jobs. First of all, I wanted to be an archaeologist and find the most amazing things about Athens or Rome. Then, my ideal job was to be a history teacher. After being a teacher, I wanted so bad to work in a history museum and explain everything that I knew. Later, I wanted to read and give my opinion about the books I had to read. Nowadays, I do have clear my ideal job and it is to work in publishing. I want to translate, read and edit books, specially historical novels. It is funny how mi ideal job is a combination of the dream jobs that I had in the past and two of my passions which are reading and history.

Poem

Fear of my wounds.
Fear of getting lost.
Fear of losing the ones I love the most.
Proud of my achievements.
Proud of saying no.
Fear of my choices.
Fear of not being enough.
Fear of the dark,
Proud of being madly in love.
Proud of giving it all.
Fear of the light.
Fear of solitude.
Fear of sadness.
Proud of my decisions.
Proud of my scars.

Free writing

Nowadays, due to the economic and employment situation in Spain many people, mostly young, decide to go abroad in order to find stability. It is not an easy decision, you leave behind a lot of things such as family, friends, food, habits, etc. Moreover, it means that you have to find a new place that you can call home and also adapt yourself to a whole new culture. But on the other hand, going abroad can be an amazing experiencie where you can learn and grow up as a person. It can help you improve your job skills and the most exiting one: learn a new lenguage. In conclusion, as a difficult decision it should be made freely, well planned and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of living in your country or abroad.
